3 Years of #ChefsForUkraine 🇺🇦

Three Years of Adaptation & Impact in Ukraine

Three years ago, World Central Kitchen began supporting Ukrainians impacted by war—marking the first time our Relief Team mobilized in response to an active conflict. What started as an emergency relief effort—serving hot meals to people fleeing the front lines—quickly evolved into a multifaceted response, adapting to meet the changing needs of communities across the country.

276+ million meals served: Three Years of #ChefsForUkraine

When we reflect on the past three years working hand-in-hand with Ukrainian communities and partners, it’s clear that not only have we had an impact on Ukraine, but this community has made a lasting impact on WCK, our model, and our role in crisis response around the world.

"The evolution of our efforts in Ukraine reflects a new reality for all of us in disaster response," said WCK CEO Erin Gore. "‘Crisis’ or ‘disaster’ is no longer just a momentary surge of need—it’s often a prolonged, complex challenge. Meeting these challenges requires agility and a model anchored in local communities."

Now, as we enter the fourth year of our #ChefsForUkraine efforts, we are proud to announce Yuliya Stefanyuk as our new response director. When WCK Founder José Andrés met Yuliya shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion, he asked if she could help feed 100,000 Ukrainians. She said yes. Since then, Yuliya has played a key role in shaping our efforts. Those 100,000 meals grew into hundreds of millions over the past three years.

As WCK’s new Ukraine response director, Yuliya will lead our team into the next phase of our work to ensure families affected by the war receive the support they need, when they need it. Learn more about what motivates Yuliya to work tirelessly to support her fellow Ukrainians impacted by the war.
