Santiago Fillol, coguionista del cineasta Oliver Laxe en dos de sus reconocidos largometrajes, Mimosas (2016) y O que arde (2019), dirige Matadero, su primer largometraje en solitario, nominado al Leopardo de Oro en el Festival de Locarno, Suiza y ganador del premio a la mejor dirección de fotografía (Mauro Herce) en el Festival Europeo de Sevilla, España.

Sinopsis Un cineasta norteamericano llega a la pampa argentina para rodar Matadero, una fábula fundacional sobre la lucha de clases entre un grupo de trabajadores asesinados por sus jefes. Es 1974, la violenta persecución a la izquierda acaba de empezar y los actores jóvenes del rodaje están al borde de saltar a la militancia clandestina.

 

"Cada vez que una clase intenta hablar en nombre de otra, surgen tensiones y luchas por el retrato que unos proponen de los otros, Mataderotrata de escenificar estas tensiones. Explora un universo conflictivo presente en nuestro país desde sus orígenes. (...) La representación de la lucha de clases y de su violencia nos abre al problema universal de lo que ocurre cuando representamos algo: ¿se amplifica, se revela, se reproduce? José and WCK Relief Team begin food distribution in Türkiye following earthquakes On February 6, a pair of powerful earthquakes, followed by continual aftershocks, devastated more than a dozen cities throughout central and southern Türkiye and northern Syria—the situation is still evolving quickly, but so far more than 20,000 deaths have been reported. José and the WCK Relief Team reached the Turkish cities of Adana and İskenderun, both near the epicenter, with more than a thousand sandwiches and much-needed water. Working with local partners, we are supporting families impacted by the crisis and rescue crews stretched thin due to the scale of the disaster. Our response has just begun, and WCK teams are scaling up as quickly as possible to meet the incredible need. SUPPORT OUR WORK The first of the earthquakes—a 7.8-magnitude temblor—occurred early on Monday as many people were still asleep, and the quake was felt as far away as Israel and Lebanon. The second was a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that shook the region just six hours later. The full scale of damage is still unknown but thousands of people are in need of immediate support. Rescue efforts have been hampered by snowy and windy conditions, with many provinces in Türkiye under weather warnings. This is a quickly evolving situation and we will share updates as we have them. WCK serving fresh meals to families and emergency crews battling deadliest fires in Chile’s history A heatwave in Chile is putting new regions at risk as hundreds of fires first ignited in the south over a week ago. The blazes are one of the country’s worst natural disasters in years and have left extensive damage in the regions of Biobío, Ñuble, and Araucanía—over a thousand people are displaced, at least 740,000 acres have burned, and 24 people have lost their lives. This has been a challenge for the thousands of emergency crews who are working against hot temperatures, dry weather, and powerful winds. WCK’s Relief Team arrived over the weekend, picking up sandwiches before heading to the hard-hit areas. We’re now working with local restaurants to provide hot meals, sandwiches, and water to first responders and frontline communities. Local volunteers are helping us deliver door-to-door to seniors and people unable to leave home. At the same time, we are reaching more communities under evacuation and devastated by fires to understand how WCK can best support. The latest from WCK’s response in Ukraine Over the last 11 months, WCK has served more than 200 million meals to Ukrainian communities impacted by the invasion. While several regions have been recently liberated, Russian military forces continue to shell communities across the country, targeting everything from homes to energy infrastructure. WCK’s efforts are constantly evolving to meet the shifting needs of communities most in need of support through food. Access to water in Kherson Oblast remains challenging, and tap water is either non-potable or unavailable entirely due to explosions at pumping stations. In Snihurivka, for example, residents have water wells and pumps but no electricity, generators, or fuel. When the weather was cold enough to freeze puddles over, people melted the ice for drinking water. The WCK team now delivers tens of thousands of bottles of clean water each week to Kherson and villages in the surrounding region.
