WCK Serves Communities in Lebanon as Conflict Escalates Over the past week, hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes as violence escalates across Lebanon. The roads have been packed, leaving some families stranded for hours, with many forced to sleep on the streets, with no food, water, and nowhere to go. World Central Kitchen teams mobilized as soon as mass evacuations began—first meeting families stuck on the roads with food and water, then rapidly starting kitchen operations in safer areas. WCK is now operating eight kitchens across Lebanon. Our teams have served tens of thousands of hot meals in recent days. Leading our response is Chef Aline Kamakian, a Lebanese Armenian culinary ambassador and WCK Chef Corps member who has cooked through crises in Lebanon before. “Our job at World Central Kitchen is to make sure that wherever they arrive, there is a hot meal waiting for them. We are working closely with municipalities and local partners to reach the families who need it most, as quickly and as consistently as possible.” -Chef Aline Kamakian, WCK Chef Corps Member During Ramadan, that means Iftar meals: soup, dates to break the fast, traditional Lebanese stews with rice, bulgur, lentils, chicken, and meat. Lunch distributions continue for Christian communities and others not observing the fast. In the middle of displacement and grief, a warm meal prepared with care is an act of profound humanity.
