Film and video   The Swimming Pool: Swim or Sink Summer Cinema   Fridays and Saturdays until 29 August – 10pm   The summer film series continues in the Garden of the Museo Reina Sofía. Entitled The Swimming Pool: Swim or Sink, the programme aims to explore the existential ambiguity that has characterised the swimming pool throughout the history of cinema in its most diverse forms.

 

 

Live arts   Take Shelter in Culture 2026 Live Flamenco in the Rooms of the Collection   Mondays until 24 August – 3pm   This summer, the Museo Reina Sofía participates, for the third year running, in Take Shelter in Culture. The campaign features performances by distinguished figures, such as Ricardo Fernández del Moral, Cynthia Cano, Patricia Donn and Lisi Sfair.

Exhibition   Fernando Sánchez Castillo The Wayward Pearl   From 24 jun 2026 to 8 mar 2027   The Palacio de Velázquez reopens with the exhibition The Wayward Pearl, devoted to artist Fernando Sánchez Castillo (Madrid, 1970), who maintains that “art is a force that makes state narratives tremble”. Starting from this premise, he acts upon the forms through which power represents itself, dismantling its symbols and revealing the fragile narratives that sustain it. In analysing monuments, images, gestures, and legends, he highlights how history is not a stable narrative but a permanently conflictive field which also affects the present.

 

 

Exhibition   Milk, Snow, Tear, Hand Blanca Sánchez’s Art of Making and Being   From 26 jun to 9 oct 2026   This exhibition is concerned with the working method of Blanca Sánchez Berciano (Madrid, 1948–2007), indivisible from her being and existence. The show emphasises the creative drive of this curator, cultural manager and collector from the camp and her collage practice as a methodology for building a conceptual reality based on articulating visual and material fragments.
