World Central Kitchen wins multiple ways at James Beard Awards

A room so quiet that you could hear the host rip the envelope. And then, the big reveal. The winner is…The World Central Kitchen Cookbook: Feeding Humanity, Feeding Hope! At the James Beard Foundation media awards on June 8 in Chicago, our first-ever cookbook was named the best international cookbook in a competitive category. The cookbook is a celebration of dignity and perseverance—and about building longer tables, not higher walls. Order your copy today!

The cookbook was co-authored by WCK founder José Andrés and Sam Chapple-Sokol, who accepted the award in Chicago.

WCK won in other ways throughout James Beard Award weekend, which includes both media awards and awards recognizing the best chefs and restaurants across the country. The Chef Corps, our global network of prominent culinary leaders who make WCK more nimble around the world, was well represented at the ceremony on June 10. Three Chef Corps members won James Beard Awards. Learn more about The WCK Cookbook and the chefs honored at the ceremony.

Cook up something delicious with WCK

Each chapter of the cookbook reflects a WCK value such as empathy or urgency. Recipes in the Hope chapter—stews, soups, and warming meals—are comforting, like Ukrainian borsch. WCK’s #ChefsForUkraine team served bowls of borsch to families fleeing into Poland in the first days after Russia launched its full scale invasion in 2022. We have provided this classic, burgundy beet soup to people all across Ukraine as a way to offer a taste of home. Watch the video below to see how our team prepares this Ukrainian staple.

Want more WCK-inspired recipes? Between now and August 30, we are making a bonus recipe booklet available to anyone who supports our work through the link below. The booklet, previously only available with cookbook preorders, features three recipes from the book and two additional recipes that were favorites during our responses in Türkiye and Ukraine.

Booklets will be sent via email on September 3.
