Celebration of Life for WCK’s heroes

Celebration of Life to Honor WCK’s Heroes

World Central Kitchen will hold an interfaith Celebration of Life to honor our heroes killed in Gaza. The memorial service will be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 25, at 11am ET. We invite you to join via livestream on our website.
The service will honor Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha of Palestine, John Chapman of Britain, Jacob Flickinger of the U.S. and Canada, Lalzawmi Frankcom of Australia, James Henderson of Britain, James Kirby of Britain, and Damian Soból of Poland.

“People of all faiths, all gods, together under one roof will be able to hold our heroes in their hearts at the National Cathedral,” said José, founder of WCK.

“Our Scriptures tell us there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends or for those in need,” said The Very Rev. Randy Hollerith, Dean of the Cathedral. “We are honored to open the doors of this Cathedral so the world can come together to honor the sacrifice of these seven brave souls and pray for an end to the war that took their lives.”

Thousands of people have gathered at memorial services and vigils around the world to grieve and honor the memories of these seven incredible people. In Poland, hundreds of mourners joined Damian's procession through the streets of his hometown. He was posthumously awarded Poland's second highest civilian honor.

In Canada, friends who served beside Jacob in the Canadian Armed Forces recalled his fierce loyalty and strength and were joined by many others at the memorial honoring his memory.

In Madrid, WCK staff, partners, and supporters gathered on Monday for a service to honor our team members.

As we come together to remember the lives and legacies of our colleagues, we invite you to learn more about the lasting impact of these exemplary humanitarians here.
