Latest from Jamaica | WCK Serving 20,000 Daily Meals

Relief Team Scales Efforts Across Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

WCK is expanding operations across western Jamaica to support families impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Since the storm made landfall as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, our teams have served nearly 400,000 meals to communities across the island.
Melissa brought destructive winds, torrential rain, and widespread flooding, cutting power to much of Jamaica and isolating entire towns. To meet the urgent need, we established two large-capacity Field Kitchens—one in Montego Bay and another in Negril. Working alongside more than 30 restaurant partners, we are now providing nearly 20,000 hot meals each day across the hardest-hit parishes: Hanover, St. James, Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, and Trelawny.

Jamaicans are stepping up to support their neighbors. Daniella and Chris John, community leaders in Montego Bay and St. James, are helping ensure meals reach the most vulnerable members of the community.

WCK Opens New High-Capacity Kitchen in North Gaza

World Central Kitchen (WCK) has resumed large-scale meal production in northern Gaza with the opening of our newest facility. On its first day of operation, the team prepared more than 3,000 meals for nearby hospitals and communities. Since October 2023, WCK has served more than 150 million meals in Gaza.
The new kitchen expands WCK’s capacity in the region, with plans to scale up to 40,000 meals per day in the coming weeks. It joins a network of kitchens across Gaza that are collectively serving more than 600,000 meals daily as WCK works toward our goal of reaching 1 million meals each day.

WCK Adds Four Major Airports to U.S. Shutdown Response That’s Fed Thousands

Meals are reaching essential airport staff—including TSA agents and air traffic controllers—at four major airports as part of WCK’s response to the U.S. government shutdown. At JFK, Reagan National, Dulles, and Baltimore/Washington airports, we’ve already served nearly 9,000 meals to TSA officers and air traffic controllers working without pay.

Our teams are serving meals to federal employees working without pay, ensuring they have access to nourishing food while continuing vital public services. In total, more than 60,000 meals prepared by local restaurants—including Maketto, Ekiben, Falafel Inc, and Mandu—have been distributed across our airport and Washington, D.C. sites, where we’re serving thousands of hot, freshly prepared meals each day to workers and their families.
